Buying in bulk is a great way to get high quality pork for less per pound than retail cuts. When you buy in bulk you get to decide how it's butchered. Don't want a whole ham? No problem, have them cut into ham steaks, grind it all into sausage or have it turned into brats. Want a large ham for the holidays? No problem, get a large center cut ham.
Our heritage breed Large Black pigs have a dark red meat with nice fat development and marbling which means tender juicy pork. They live and forage in our woods around the pastures. For more information about our farm check out our practices here.
How much does it cost?
We charge $7.00 per pound of hanging weight. Hanging weight is the weight after the head, feet and organs have been removed. Our finished pigs average 205 pounds of hanging weight. You can expect to get roughly 165 pounds of meat back as cuts. On average it breaks down to $, plus butchering fees, for 165 pounds of pork that is cut to your specification.
Butchering fees will vary depending on your selections and what items you want smoked but typically averages about $300. When your order is placed we will provide you with a butchering sheet for you to fill out and return to us a week prior to the butcher date. We can help by taking you through this process (we can fill out the sheet together) and answer any questions you have.
We are taking orders now for an April butcher date. Once butchering and smoking is complete (about two weeks) we will schedule an on farm pick-up day. The pork will come frozen and boxed for easy travel but if you have a long drive we recommend bringing coolers.
We require a $350 non-refundable deposit to hold the hog. Final payment will be due to Ramble Creek Farm at pick up. This will include the per pound price of the hanging weight and the butchering costs minus the $350 deposit.
